 Collecting seashells is a wonderful thing to with kids at the beach. But don't just throw them away. There is so much to say about seashells. I've been crazy about seashells since I was a child, happily collecting them on the beach. Seashells have become the focus of my life-long hobby.
I'm a seashell craftsman. I make beautiful things out of seashells. Seashells can be used for beautiful unique decorations. Seashells make beautiful collages. They can be used as ornamental soap trays, as wall hangings, to adorn jewlery and clothing. I've seen entire walls completely covered with glued on seashells, for a stunning effect. Seashells can be even hung as wind chimes which make a delightful noise when the breeze blows through them.What is fascinating about seashells, is that they start out as the solid home of a living creature. Seashells begin their life as the homes of crabs, clams, mussels, and the like, but end up as incredibly beautiful works of art, each individually crafted by the Creator, for our enjoyment and admiration. I've been intrigued by seashells since I was about 5 years old and first took a trip to the beach. I collected seashells for years, brought them home and made beautiful creations, that I even sold and displayed. If you would like to try seashell crafting, but don't want to spend the hours and hours combing the beach, like I have you can buy shells. Seashells can be bought, ordered, or found for all kinds of purposes. Since most people are ignorant about seashells, it's possible to get taken advantage of. People often pay huge amounts of money for junk. For example, sand dollars found in droves on the sea shores of the San Francisco bay area, are sold individually for five, ten, or even more dollars. Anyone who knows about seashells will tell you how special a good conch shell is. A good one is worth buying. Even though they sell them for inflated prices to tourists, these shells really are treasures from the sea. Their large size and beautiful, intricate design, is impresive. The best part is that you can actually hear the sea in them if you hold them to your ear. Conch shells can be blown into at the end resulting in a clear, and brilliant tone. As you can see, there is so much to tell and enjoy about seashells. |
